Don Irwin’s love for antiques started at a young age, when his Uncle Dave taught him how to restore and care for fine furniture and antiques. As he grew older, his love for antiques and quality craftsmanship continued to grow with him.

Don joined the United States Air Force on March 7th, 1977, and researched and restored family heirlooms in his free time. Upon leaving his 13-½ year military career, Don began repairing and refinishing furniture on the patio of his home in 1989 under the name, Irwin’s Furniture Restoration. Don primarily performed furniture repairs, but never turned down a job upon customer request; if he did not know how to do it, he would learn how, and brought home upholstery and weaving projects for his wife, Min, to learn as well.

As his business continued to grow, so did his workspace, storing furniture in extra bedrooms and in the kitchen. In 1991, Don realized he needed more living space for his wife and three kids, so he rented out the company’s first location in Old Town Glendale.

In 2000, the Irwin’s home flooded while on a weeklong vacation. When they returned, Don told his insurance company that he would not let anyone else refinish his family’s heirlooms. Word started to spread throughout the insurance industry of Irwin’s Furniture Restoration’s quality craftsmanship and work started to escalate. Don realized he needed more employees and more space to accommodate the influx of work and moved to a larger location. His two sons, share his love for antiques and fine wood furnishings, and decided to join the newly hired team. Don Irwin’s oldest son, Donald, joined the team as Operation Manager; and has received training from the Smithsonian Center for Materials Research & Education, as well as, a wealth of knowledge from his father.

In 2011, Don’s second son, Jeremiah expanded the company by developing Irwin’s Cabinets; a division to meet the need for standard and custom cabinets and countertops.

Throughout the years Irwin’s Furniture has gained the finest quality reputation from local residents and businesses, contractors throughout the valley, and insurance companies across the nation. Min has been named as one of Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine’s “Masters of the Southwest.” Don Irwin’s daughter, Abby, joined the team as business manager after obtaining her MBA from Grand Canyon University at the age of 23.

Irwin’s Furniture Restoration is currently on its second generation of family ownership, and will continue to restore memories for years to come.
